Message from Dean

Greetings from SMU.

The Master of Science in Applied Finance (MAF) is an intensive course designed to provide candidates with a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the practical issues of financial instruments and markets.

The distinctive feature of the MAF is its strong emphasis on the analytical aspects of finance. Graduates of our programme will attain a solid understanding of economic analysis, financial statement analysis, security pricing and workings of financial markets, all of which are becoming increasingly vital in the financial industry. Our curriculum is also designed to meet the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) examination requirements for those pursuing their CFA designation. Our students have achieved excellent results in the CFA examinations.

The programme is intended to prepare students for a wide range of careers in the financial industry, including equity analysis, portfolio management, fixed income analysis, corporate risk management, corporate strategy and hedge fund management.

Our aim is to enable participants to acquire valuable analytical skills which they can use as they rise through the corporate hierarchy.

While we now have much competition, we remain unique, not only in what is taught, but also in how it is taught and by whom. We have put together a team of highly  well-qualified and experienced faculty and industry professionals to share their knowledge with participants.

I invite you to join our programme. You will find it a rewarding and enriching experience.
