The curriculum structure for the Master of Science in Operations Management (by Research) consists of foundation courses, faculty-directed research seminars, and a master's thesis. Candidates are required to complete

4 foundation courses, 2 faculty-directed research seminars, 2 independent studies, and a thesis proposal by the end of the first academic year
- A Master's thesis by the end of the second academic year.

- What is the duration of the programme?
The duration of the programme is 24 months.
- Can I transfer to another discipline after the programme has started?
Application for change in discipline after the programme has started is subject to consideration on a case-by-case basis.
- For Master of Science in Operations Management (by Research), am I expected to have determined my research topic at the point of admission?
The Master of Science in Operations Management (by Research) is designed to have a predominant research component. Due to the tight academic schedule and work on thesis preparation that begins in Term 1, it will be extremely useful for students to have a good idea of their specific research topic at the point of admission.
- What is the difference between the Master of Science (by Research) and Master of Science (by Coursework)?
The Master of Science (by Research) has a significant research component. Candidates are required to complete a thesis and thesis preparation will begin from the start of the programme. A thesis is not required for the Master of Science (by Coursework). Instead, an advanced paper is required. For more information on the programme structure, see Programme Structure and Curriculum.
- I have another Master's degree, will I be granted exemptions for the courses?
Exemptions and waivers are considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Can the programme be taken by distance learning?
The programme is not offered by distance learning. The courses are conducted at SMU campus and candidates are expected to attend all the courses physically.
- Can I select the discipline after the programme has started?
All candidates are required to select their discipline prior to admission.

Undergraduate medium of instruction was not English, are to sit for TOEFL.

Work experience is not a requirement.

We do not have a minimum GMAT/GRE score as each applicant is evaluated on all the credentials.
- Can I apply before I have taken GMAT/GRE?
You can send the rest of the application to us, even if you have not taken the GMAT/GRE. However we will not process your application without your GMAT/GRE score. You should fax us your unofficial scores as soon as you receive them and arrange with the test centre for the official score report to be sent to SMU.
- Can I be exempt from taking GMAT/GRE?

- What is the deadline for application?
The deadline for application is 31 January 2010 .
- Is there an application fee?
Yes, there is a non-refundable application fee of S$50.
- Are there any scholarships or financial assistance available?
Scholarships will be available to outstanding candidates.
The following stipend rates are valid for AY2009 only and the rates may change for the intake in AY2010. The new stipend rates for AY2010 should be available in the website by February 2010.
Students on scholarship will receive a monthly stipend of S$1,500 for up to 24 months in addition to a waiver of tuition fee.
The award of scholarship is at the discretion of the Admissions Committee.
