How to obtain a Second Major in Quantitative Finance if I am an Economics Major?

An Economics Major completes the 6 University Core courses as usual.

•  For Global & Regional Studies requirement, the student must take Global Financial Risk Management QF305 as one of the two courses. The other is one of Economic Development in Asia or Economic History. QF305 is recognized as fulfilling the G&R Studies requirement for Economics Major.

•  For Technology & Entrepreneurship requirement, the student must take in addition to Computer As An Analysis Tool, IS Software Foundations IS200 . IS200 is recognized as fulfilling the T&E requirement for Economics Major.

•  For the 10 Major-related (EMR) courses, the Economics Major must take the following:

(1) Introductory Statistics STAT101 or Introduction to Statistical Theory STAT151

(2) Two Social Sciences courses*;

* However, Economics Major may satisfy up to two social sciences courses as GE Arts requirements if they have to satisfy the latter. In this case, up to two courses in the EMR may be substituted by QF courses.

(3) 7 courses from any of the following Business Core and QF list, viz.

Financial Accounting ACCT101

Management Accounting ACCT102

Finance FNCE 101

Differential Equations QF202

Real Analysis QF203

Probability and Finance Theory QF 204

Structured Finance QF301

Investment and Financial Data Analysis QF302

•  Intermediate Mathematics for Economics may be taken under the 8 Economics major courses instead of being one of the 10 EMR courses.

•  The remainder of the above 9 courses (any of which cannot be counted as Economics Major requirement), and including Linear Algebra and Regression QF201 (which cannot be counted as EMR) will constitute additional courses for the Economics Major to take in order to obtain the QF as a second major. The Economics major may need between 2* to 4 of such additional courses on a case-by-case basis.

 

How to obtain a Second Major in Quantitative Finance if I am an Information Systems Management Major?

•  An ISM Major completes the 6 University Core courses as usual.

•  For Global & Regional Studies requirement, the student must take Global Financial Risk Management QF305 as one of the two courses. QF305 is recognized as a course fulfilling the G&R Studies requirement for ISM Major.

•  The courses IS Software Foundations IS200 for the ISM Major would satisfy the QF second Major.

•  For the 3 compulsory Business Oriented Electives, the ISM Major must take the following:

(1) Introductory Statistics STAT101or Introduction to Statistical Theory STAT151

(2) Business Processes;

(3) Computer As An Analysis Tool

•  In addition, ISM Major must take 4 other Business Oriented Electives from the following Business Core and QF list, viz.

Financial Accounting ACCT101

Management Accounting ACCT102

Finance FNCE101

Investment and Financial Data Analysis QF302

The ISM Major can design his courses such that he/she needs to take 7 additional courses to obtain the QF as a second major:

(1) Linear Algebra and Regression QF201

(2) Differential Equations QF202

(3) Real Analysis QF203

(4) Probability and Finance Theory QF 204

(5) Structured Finance QF301

(6) Stochastic Calculus and Finance Theory QF303

(7) Numerical Methods QF304

 

How to obtain a Second Major in Quantitative Finance if I am a Social Science Major?

•  A Social Science Major completes the 6 University Core courses as usual.

•  For Global & Regional Studies requirement, the student must take Global Financial Risk Management QF305 as one of the two courses. The other is International Economics A. QF305 is recognized as fulfilling the G&R Studies requirement for Economics Major.

•  For Technology & Entrepreneurship requirement, the student must take in addition to Computer As An Analysis Tool, IS Software Foundations IS200 . IS200 is recognized as fulfilling the T&E requirement for Economics Major.

•  A Social Science Major completes Introductory Statistics STAT101 or Introduction to Statistical Theory STAT151 as a Social Science Core.

•  For the 5 Major-related (SSMR) options, the Social Science Major must take the following:


(1) Two Social Sciences courses*;
* However, as with the Economics Major, Social Science Major may satisfy up to two social sciences courses as GE Arts requirements if they have to satisfy the latter, subject to prior approval from the School. In this case, up to two courses in the SSMR options may be substituted by QF courses.

(2) Financial Accounting ACCT101

(3) Management Accounting ACCT102

(4) Finance FNCE101

•  The remaining required QF major courses as follows will constitute additional courses for the Social Science Major to take in order to obtain the QF as a second major. The Social Science major may need between 6* to 8 of such additional courses on a case-by-case basis.

•  An Accounting Major completes the 6 University Core courses as usual.

•  For Global & Regional Studies requirement, the student must take Global Financial Risk Management QF305 as one of the two courses. The other is Tax Planning. QF305 is recognized as fulfilling the G&R Studies requirement for Accounting Major.

•  For Technology & Entrepreneurship requirement, the student must take IS200 . IS200 is recognized as fulfilling the T&E requirement for Accounting Major.

•  For the 10 Business Subjects requirement, the Accounting Major must take the following:

(1) Introductory Statistics STAT101or Introduction to Statistical Theory STAT151

(2) Financial Accounting ACCT101

(3) Management Accounting ACCT102

(4) Finance FNCE101

and the other 6 Business courses.

The Accounting Major can design his courses such that he/she needs to take 8 additional courses to obtain the QF as a second major:
