Selected Consulting Activities

For a US energy company, developed an analytical framework and a set of operational tools to manage deferrals, cancellations, and initiation of new capacity orders from gas turbine manufacturers.

For a US can manufacturer, created the “lowest-cost provider” strategy by initiating SKU rationalization, improving inventory management and redesigning production schedules. Introduced the concept of “the floating bottleneck” and built procedures to ensure adequate WIP supply to the bottleneck.

For a major US energy company, led the effort to develop a corporate-wide price forecasting and risk management system. Evaluated competitive threats, in the form of announced capacity expansions by competitors, and assessed their impact on future prices of electricity.

For a Japanese generation company, led a project to rebalance generation assets based on future risk/return profiles. Developed methods to forecast future price risks in absence of market commodity price data. Redesigned contract pricing to reflect deregulation of the retail sector. Created an estimated $300M of value for the client.

For a major chemical company, developed a method to determine optimal sizing and timing of new chemical plant additions. Savings estimated at $50M.

For a major railroad company, helped develop an integrated business portfolio strategy. Pioneered the modeling of railroad traffic flow over a congested multi-node network.

For a major US electric utility, developed an electricity price forecast based on the balance of supply and demand in the region to arrive at the market clearing price for electricity and five year market price forecasts for electricity.

For a start-up investment fund, develop an analytical framework for assessing risks inherent in portfolio of real estate transactions, based on the common as well as deal-specific risk factors. The model was used to successfully evaluate a series of real estate deals.
