About Singapore
Suggested Places for Family and Kids

Jurong

Jurong Town, west of the city centre, is a huge industrial and housing area that is the powerhouse of Singapore's economy. This might seem an unlikely spot for a number of Singapore's tourist attractions but it is home to the Haw Par Villa (an incredibly tacky Chinese mythological theme park), the beautifully landscaped Jurong Bird Park, Chinese Garden and the hands-on Singapore Discovery Centre.

Night Safari

The world's first wildlife park built for visits at night, the Night Safari is not like any ordinary zoo illuminated by the night or a modern version of nocturnal houses found in many zoos around the globe.

Singapore Science Centre

While it is recognised that formal educational institutions will fulfil the primary objective of producing science literate people, there is a need for the population at large to appreciate aspects of science in a leisurely and entertaining manner. Of relatively recent origins, science centres are endowed with the resources to accomplish this task admirably. They popularise science by creating an environment where the audience can indulge in participatory learning.

The assortment of exhibits spanning various disciplines are basically incubators of scientific knowledge and the emphasis is more on hands-on exploratory learning rather than the formal text-based approach. Through innovative science exhibits which stress aspects of everyday life and other developments relevant to a nation, science centres are ideally poised to play an important role in nation-building efforts. More information is available online.

Sentosa Island

The granddaddy of Singapore's parks, Sentosa Island is the city-state's most visited attraction. It has museums, aquariums, beaches, sporting facilities, walks, rides and food centres. If a day isn't enough to take in all the sites and activities, the island has a camping ground, hostel and luxury hotels.

Singapore Zoological Gardens

Long acclaimed for its Open Zoo concept - animals live in spacious and landscaped enclosures simulating that of their natural habitat, the Singapore Zoo is taking this further by evolving towards an Open, Learning Zoo experience. Instead of just watching the animals, there will be educational content designed in an interactive mode such that facts about the animals and messages about wildlife conservation are more effectively conveyed.
